Justin "J-Po" Ponsor passed away in May after fighting a two-year battle with cancer, though he continued working until his death at the age of 41. J-Po started working in 1996 for WildStorm after graduating from Palomar College. While working at WildStorm, he held a position as an in-house colorist.
Following his time there, he went freelance in 2000, making himself one of the first creatives to work at CrossGen. In 2005, he left the independent and freelance world behind to work at the House of Ideas, exclusively working for Marvel up to his death.
J-Po worked on a lot of titles during his relatively short time here on Earth, but his work on Marvel Comics' Avengers earned him a nomination for a Golden Issue Award by ComicBook.com in 2018. throughout his career, he worked primarily as a colorist, and his library of work encompassed 1,194 separate issues.
Ponsor's coloring has appeared in many of Marvel Comics' greatest titles of the last two decades, including The Uncanny X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Fantastic-Four, Secret Warriors, Guardians of the Galaxy, Young Avengers, New Avengers, The Defenders, Ms. Marvel, and many more. His family announced his passing on his professional Facebook page with the following post:
"After a long and well-documented battle with cancer, Justin passed away in his home early on the morning of May 18th, surrounded by loved ones. It has been a time of mourning, reminiscing, and, above all else, celebration. Because. C’mon. This guy."
