Vision writer Tom King has a habit of turning readers into weeping puddles of pure feels. It's like a drug for him, I'm sure, given the amount of times he manages to do it. In fact he appears several times in this list.

Well, with artist Gabriel Hernandez Walta and colourist Jordie Bellaire, King crafts the tale of the Vision, who takes a job at Washington and decides to build himself a family, in the form of wife Virginia and twin children Vin and Viv.

The series follows the peculiar suburban life of the android Avenger and his artificial family unit, as they face curious neighbours, and more than a little bit of prejudice too. However, things really fall apart when a supervillain attacks the home while Vision is away, and Virginia is forced to kill the assailant.

Burying the corpse in the back garden, Virginia is plagued by the act and the knowledge that someone knows what she did.

Over the course of 12 issues, the family breaks down as the perfect suburban fallacy they created begins to fall apart, and King et al. tell this story with emotional complexity and honesty, and even if it is about a family of androids capable of phasing through solid matter, we feel we can understand exactly what they're going through.

When the final issue rolls around, and the family lies broken beyond all repair, it's hard to keep a dry eye.
