10 Comic Book Plots That Will Never Be Resolved
5. The Avengers' Fight Against Bloodwraith
Sean Dolan was introduced as the friend and squire of the Avenger's member Black Knight. However, when he tried to use his mentor's cursed sword, the Ebony Blade, the dead souls trapped inside overwhelmed him, transforming him into the villainous Bloodwraith.
Despite refusing to return the sword, Sean eventually reformed and dedicated himself to helping others. He joined a humanitarian group and journeyed to Slorenia, a (fictional) European country that had been devastated by Ultron.
While there though, he was overcome by the urge to use the Ebony Blade. Drawing the sword, he absorbed the souls of all the millions of dead in Slorenia, growing gigantic in size and power. He was so strong that the Avengers were unable to stop him, the best Scarlet Witch could do was seal him within the country's borders, protecting the rest of the world. The Avengers swore that they wouldn't sacrifice an entire country and swore to find a more permanent solution.
Except then they apparently decided they were fine with sacrificing an entire country because they never brought up Bloodwraith ever again. To make matters worse, Black Knight in later appearances had the Ebony Blade, offering no explanation as to how he got it back.
All we can do now is accept this absolutely canon explanation that Black Knight convinced Bloodwraith to give up Ebony Blade by trading him all his Pogs for it.
