10 Comic Book Villains Whose Origins Are A Mystery

9. Massacre

The Joker
DC Comics

Created by Karl Kessel and Barry Kitson for Adventures of Superman #509, Massacre was unleashed on the galaxy with no origin, no name, and no motivation other than killing simply for sport and the occasional paid assassination. Massacre has killed thousands across hundreds of planets and is followed by an alien named Skimmer that scavenges the ruins of the alien’s destruction.

Massacre came to Earth to challenge Superman. He first ended up in Metropolis, Illinois before finding the correct city. Initially, the alien was toying with the Man of Steel, beating him ferociously without receiving a single punch. Clark discovered the rampaging alien had the ability to sense his nerve impulses and with that knowledge, defeated him quickly.

Massacre was captured by the Tribunal and his powers were suppressed. After being found guilty of mass genocide, he was beaten to death by some of the families of his former victims. Later, the ruby-colored brute turned up alive in the servitude of Maxima where they battled Superman and Kyle Rayner. Both aliens were killed on Earth while they were fighting against the galactic despot Imperiex in Superman: The Man of Steel #117.
