10 Comic Book Villains Whose Origins Are A Mystery

2. Arcade

The Joker
Marvel Comics

Arcade was a clearly insane red-haired assassin who seemingly sprang up out of nowhere when he first appeared in Marvel Team-Up #65. Instead of simply killing people, he subjected them to elaborate “Murderworlds” where they would have to overcome a number of deadly amusement park-style obstacles for the possibility of escape. The assassin was aided in these endeavours by Ms. Locke and Mr. Chambers.

Arcade was far more interested in the game than the outcome. The cost of his Murderworlds often far exceeded his general fee of one million dollars. He was also undeterred by the fact that he often fails, especially when he pitted himself against superheroes. He has a personal animosity for Captain Britain and has tried to kill him for free a number of times.

Learning that he was considered a laughing stock among the villain community, Arcade changed his opinion to “winning is everything.” To this end, he kidnapped a number of young heroes from Avengers Academy, The Runaways, and other places, including X-23, Hazmat, Nico Minoru, Reptil, and many others. He trapped them on an island and forced them to kill each other. At first, they rebelled and attacked him, but as the game progressed, they started to kill one another. Before he was defeated, Arcade uploaded the footage to the internet and the survivors' reputations were ruined.
