Preacher comes from the slightly disturbed mind of Garth Ennis, the man responsible for most of the Punisher MAX series.

Hailing from Northern Island, he grew up watching his fair share of violence that lead up to the Good Friday Agreement. His personal experiences spill out across all his work, but his greatest material would come from his partnership with artist Steve Dillon.

After a stint on Hellblazer, the two got together and came up with Preacher. A story of a Texan who is possessed by a supernatural creature, Genesis, making him the most powerful being in the universe. He and his two companions set out on a journey across America trying to find God, who went missing as soon as Genesis was born.

Again, being a book from the Nineties, there is plenty of questionable language throughout. However, even without that, the book is still a plethora of swears, violence, references to bestiality and all that lovely stuff you really shouldn't be letting the little ones read.
