10 Comic Characters Who Totally Changed After Appearing On Screen
5. Spider-Man
Spider-Man is a superhero who has remained remarkably unchanged since he was first introduced. Some might even say TOO unchanged: despite Peter Parker debuting as a sixteen year old in 1962, somehow in the 2020s he is only in his mid-twenties and studying in college. Talk about ageing gracefully!
One thing that has occasionally changed over the years is his set of superpowers. The original character really only had two things going for him: he was really strong and really sticky. His web shooters were a mechanism he invented himself, using the remarkable intellect he possessed even before he had been bitten by a radioactive spider.
That was until the 2002 Spider-Man film came along, and replaced the web-shooters with organic webbing, another by-product of the spider bite. After the movie was a huge hit, the comics decided to introduce this organic webbing to cater towards their new fans. How would they achieve this? Why, through bizarre, unsettling body horror of course!
Readers were treated to watching Peter Parker transform into a giant spider, lay a massive egg, and then give birth to a new version of himself that could shoot webs. Because comics!
