10 Comics Changed Due To Fan Backlash
1. Credit Where Credit's Due
While a Neal Adams-fronted campaign saw Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster acknowledged by Warner Bros. as the brains behind the Man of Steel ahead of 1978's Superman: The Movie - a move that granted Siegel and Shuster financial rewards for their creation - it took until 2015 for Bill Finger to get the credit he deserved.
Alongside Bob Kane, Bill Finger created, amongst others, Batman.
If you were a casual fan of the Bat, you likely wouldn't have been aware of Finger's involvement in the origins of the Caped Crusader, and that's largely down to how DC Comics - then operating as National Comics - made a deal with Bob Kane to solely credit Kane as Batman's creator.
For the more hardcore fans, they had spent decades berating the handling of Bill Finger's role in the creation of the World's Greatest Detective, with Finger and his family having missed out on the credit and financial gains that come along with having such a major role in creating a bone fide pop culture legend.
Even though DC began to recognise Finger's role by the turn of the century, it took until 2015 for the fan backlash to finally cause the company to properly credit Bill Finger in any and all Batman projects. And even now, that credit usually reads "Batman created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger" - despite many claiming that Finger was the one most responsible for crafting and shaping the Dark Knight we see today.
