10 Comics Villains Who Secretly Mirrored The Hero

6. Star / Captain Marvel

Joker Batman
Marvel Comics

Captain Marvel has never had it easy. Not only is she the target of an ever-expanding line-up of intergalactic villains, she is also the target of a large group of reactionary, regressive comic book "fans" who find the idea of a physically powerful woman to be "too political" for their comics.

If you ever ask one of these fans for their views on Captain Marvel, be prepared to hear a long and passionate spiel about how Carol Danvers is a nasty, evil character, undeserving of her fame and completely manufactured by writers and artists who don't understand storytelling.

Whether you agree with the haters or not, you have to agree that a lot of their points are based on complete misunderstandings of the character and her motivations.

But... what if there was a character who actually fit that description? What if Marvel created someone who really reflected these reactionary takes on Captain Marvel?

Enter Star.

Star, a.k.a. Ripley Ryan, is everything that Carol Danvers cynics claim Captain Marvel is. Although she has similar powers to the Captain (with a reality-bending twist), she actually is evil, and can be incredibly nasty when she feels like it.

As for being undeserving of fame and manufactured: her in-world origin revolves around her saving people from disasters that she caused, all to gain fame and admiration from ordinary citizens.
