Don't worry, we're not about to get biblical on you here. This is still an article about comic books, after all! Ahoy Comics' Second Coming is a comic that gave us a fresh look at the characters of the New Testament, one that proved to be about as controversial as that last entry about Captain Marvel probably will be in the comments.

Second Coming follows Jesus Christ being sent to Earth for a second time by his father, God.

God is tired of Jesus moping aimlessly around Heaven, and wants him to learn to be a true hero by shadowing Sunspot, this universe's version of Superman. Naturally, Satan decides to get involved, hoping to trick Jesus into getting God to destroy the world.

While the comic was delayed from publication for a whole year due to backlash from its blasphemous subject matter, it's a surprisingly nuanced take on modern-day religion. It also brings up some very interesting parallels between these versions of Jesus and Satan.

Both are inhabitants of Heaven are banished to Earth in order to learn a lesson. Both purposely go against God in order to preach their own ideas on how people should live their lives.

Both come across as flawed people who fall for temptation in similar ways. The main difference is that while Jesus wants to prove to God that humans are worth sparing, Satan wants to prove that they need to be destroyed ASAP.

They also both get to make friends with Superman, which is fun!
