10 Controversial Batman Comics DC Wants You To Forget

5. Flashpoint

While most people hope to forget at least parts of Flashpoint, the decision to have Bruce's father, Thomas Wayne, star as Batman is a controversial one at best.

Thomas has donned the cape in many comic series prior - hell, he even continues to into the New 52 - but the Flashpoint version of this is perhaps the darkest one that has ever seen the light of day, with a misanthrope Thomas operating with less of a moral code than we're used to seeing from the Dark Knight.

What truly makes this controversial is that it was actually pretty good - both in plot and in revitalising overused characters. The tragedy of Flashpoint Batman is that if the writers had had the freedom to make Thomas any figure other than Batman, there is a chance that the series could have survived to this day.

As it is, the comic instead remains a grim reminder that sometimes promising comics will be cut short by uncontrollable outside factors - a unfortunate but very real danger working with such famous franchises.
