10 Controversial Batman Comics DC Wants You To Forget
4. Joker Time
Joker Time is possibly the weirdest comic to feature the clown ever - and given he was once emperor of the entire universe, that's saying something.
Joker Time appears to be made to criticise the media, although it does this mostly through the Joker's own dialogue, which seems like a questionable choice given the Joker is less than trustworthy. Stranger yet, the comic attempts to depict its events realistically, somehow implying that a TV show would kidnap a homicidal maniac for an interview, and then be surprised when he acts a little unusually.
It's interesting, sure, but that doesn't always equal a well executed comic. The strange thing is, the Joker origin stories in the comic are incredibly well done - which has to make you wonder why the rest of the story isn't of equal quality. If there was more of a plot it could easily be forgiven, but the whole thing is basically just a Joker monologue, which gets tiring after 100 or so pages.
In all fairness, Joker Time is made out of an interesting and genuinely fresh premise - it's just a shame that it's carried out in such a ham-fisted manner.
