10 Controversial Comic Book Deaths Fans Hated
8. Wally West - Heroes In Crisis, The New 52
Wally West may not have been the first Flash, but during the nineties and the early noughties he was probably the most popular. The character had taken over the mantle after Barry Allen perished in DC's epic watershed event, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Wally had led the way ever since, with Bart Allen and Jay Garrick working alongside as the first Flash and Kid Flash respectively.
By the time the character appeared on WB Animation's Justice League cartoon, it looked as though this would be the case forever. However, when Barry returned in 2008's Final Crisis (in a very cool way, it must be said - he outran death itself) DC pivoted away from Wally all over again. The character even got his own TV show, and when DC decided to reboot everything in 2011 with the New 52, Wally was nowhere to be seen.
The irony of fans exclaiming "where's Wally?" didn't make the West-less world easy to deal with, and even though a version of Wally was introduced into that continuity several years later, it wasn't until DC Rebirth when the original character came back.
... Only to be killed off in Heroes in Crisis. Hooray.
Wally is once again back with the living, but only time will tell if he recovers from his character assassination in HIC.
