6. The Wasp - Ultimatum

If you ever want a prime example of how to utterly destroy a good thing, then look no further than Jeph Loeb and David Finch's Ultimatum, a storyline that would eventually prove to be the death-knell for the Ultimate Universe.

There was a time where Marvel's Ultimate line of comics overtook the original 616 canon, with Brian Bendis, Mark Millar and several others modernising classic Marvel characters like Spider-Man, the Avengers and the X-Men. At the forefront were the Ultimates, which had Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and Wasp to count among their ranks, as well as a few more.

The Ultimate Universe was never the sunniest interpretation of Marvel's world, but there were occasions where it overstepped the mark. Ultimatum marked the most egregious occasion where it did, as it ushered in the deaths of dozens of Ultimate Marvel characters, none more infamous than Wasp's.

How does she die? Well she gets cornered by the Blob, who then decides to cannibalise her corpse. Incensed, Giant Man picks him up in his hand, and promptly decides to bite his head off.

Everything about this death was just disgusting, which also rather fittingly sums up Ultimatum as a whole.
