10 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy Marvel‏ Comics

9. Sue And Reed Richards Are Happily Married

Speaking of things that have inexplicably carried on for nigh on five decades, the holy matrimony at the middle of the Fantastic Four doesn't make a lick of sense. Even from the start, Mr Fantastic and the Invisible Woman didn't seem well matched: Reed was always bossing Sue around, leaving her to cook dinner, iron everyone's costumes and generally be the perfect housewife whilst the rest of them got on with the superheroics, as if she didn't have some impressive powers herself. You could put that down to the FF starting their careers in the less-than-progressive Marvel of the early sixties, but it's not like Reed's gotten any better behaved as time's gone by. At best he's distant as a husband, always wrapped up (sometimes literally) in whatever experiment he has on the go; at worst, he actively puts his wife and children in immediate peril, usually because he hasn't thought something through properly. Being an unconventional family unit - one with a rock monster and a guy who sets himself on fire on the reg - is a core part of the Fantastic Four's make-up, but when you look at the evidence, there's really no good reason Sue Storm didn't run off and shack up with Namor long ago.
