I didn€™t think it would be possible for Dave Johnson to ever match the quality of the latter half of his 100 Bullets run, but with his recent PunisherMAX run I think he surpassed it. It was with this run that I really sat up and took notice of the pure talent on show - it's as if he is putting even less on the page and yet saying even more. For example take a look at these:

This is just mind blowing to me and is a pitch perfect cover. Issue 75 was the final issue of PunisherMAX (before its odd relaunch with Jason Aaron at the helm) and featured five standalone stories set in Central Park. I just love the way Frank Castle ominously watches over Central Park - the place where his family were gunned down. The blood red Punisher logo spread out across it perfectly states that that was where he started and the contrast compared to how dark everything else on the page is gives it a real impact - again, stating implicitly without hitting you over the head with what this issue is about.
