Similar to Rose Wilson's upbringing, Cassandra Cain was the daughter of two of the most powerful trained killers from the League of Assassins. Specifically being the daughter of Lady Shiva and David Cain - the latter, of which, who had raised Cassandra from birth to be a weapon of destruction.

During her training, Cassandra had learned to read the body language of an opponent well enough so that she could determine what their next move was, as well as hone in on their weak points. This had unfortunately limited her ability to communicate vocally, though, and it also left her slightly dyslectic.

As a witness to her father’s work, Cassandra seemingly became desensitized to death. Though when it finally came time for her to actually kill someone, her actions would nevertheless prove otherwise. Reading the body language of the dying man that she had just killed, leaves Cassandra incredibly distraught - whereupon she immediately turns on her father. Cassandra then attacks David out of rage and finally leaves him for good.

She eventually finds herself in Gotham City, where Cassandra meets Barbra Gordon (aka Oracle). In the time that Cassandra spends in helping her with random errands, Barbra soon learns that Cassandra has had some martial arts training in the past. Barbra becomes so impressed by Cassandra's advanced capabilities, that she even begins to consider her as a potential successor to her Batgirl title.

Cassandra would later indeed become the new Batgirl, though she would later take on a name of her own as the vigilante Orphan.
