10 Different Ways Batman Has Been Defeated
4. Kidnapped, Drugged, Tortured, Brainwashed
One of the weirder entries in the pantheon of Batman comics (and some of them are pretty weird, like the one where he's a Nazi, because of course there is) is The Cult, a four-part prestige format story from the late eighties by written by Jim Starlin, illustrated by Bernie Wrightson, colored by Bill Wray, takes the cake.
For one thing, it's one of the few places (outside of Final Crisis) that you'll see Batman wielding a gun. He sort of has a rule against them. He also kills people, too, which isn't really in line with his usual MO.
Forgive him, though, for he knows not what he does. The whole premise of The Cult is that the Dark Knight is abducted by, well, a cult. Specifically an underground cabal lead by Deacon Blackfire, whose homeless followers make quick work of kidnapping Batman, keeping him for ages, and brainwashing him. All it takes is man power (and lots of drugs).
