10 Disgusting Comic Book Moments That Made Us Feel Sick

4. What You Can't See Can't Hurt You... Right? (The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

Hyde League Of Extraordinary GentlemenDCAlan Moore is another writer famous for pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable in comics and he did not disappoint with his series The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, re-imagining famous literary characters as morally corrupt 'heroes' who protect the Victorian Empire. After secretly betraying the League and even assaulting a team member, The Invisible Man believes that he is safe from detection, but Hyde reveals that he could see Griffin the whole time using thermal vision. Most superheroes would just tell the rest of the team exactly what has transpired and collaborate to bring The Invisible Man to justice, but Hyde takes a different route, violently raping Griffin to death. Seriously. The image of a giant monster having angry vengeful sex with the air is sickening to say the least, but that's not even the worst bit. Hyde joins the rest of the League for dinner and as he explains what he did, The Invisible Man's blood begins to slowly become visible all over his shirt and the table. The need to enact vengeance on Griffin is again understandable, but the way which Alan Moore chose to implement this is another grotesque bid to shock and disgust readers. I sure don't remember seeing anything like that in the original Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde novel!
