10 Disgusting Comic Book Moments That Made Us Feel Sick

3. Show Me Some Skin! (Joker)

As one of the most iconic villains ever created, The Joker was long overdue his own turn in the spotlight and in 2008, DC finally saw sense and produced a graphic novel starring the Clown Prince of Crime. Brian Azzarello had a difficult task on his hands, capturing the essence of such a complicated character, but the result was well received by critics. Of course, any story that successfully penetrates the Joker's psyche is going to be warped beyond all measure and Azzarello did not disappoint in this regard.

As is often the case, the story begins with the Jokers release from Arkham Asylum. While he has been away, a former henchman called Monty hired his lover Harley Quinn to be a stripper in his club and understandably, the Joker is not too happy about this development. Most criminals would probably put a hit out on Monty or do the job themselves, but this is the Clown Prince of Crime we're talking about here, so instead, the Joker proceeds to skin Monty alive. As if that wasn't horrendous enough, the Joker then leads Monty out onto the stage, forcing him to dance before dying in front of a horrified audience.

Do you know what the worst bit is though? The Joker slaps Monty's skinned ass before he dies, creating the most disgusting sound effect ever written... 'slack'. How Azzarello knew that was the correct noise could be a cause for concern and depending on your sensibility, this scene is either the Joker at his demented best or one of the worst things you'll ever see in a comic book.
