10 Essential Horror Comics Fans Must Read

6. From Hell

If there are any two people that all British writers are required to write about at least once in their careers, it's Sherlock Holmes and Jack The Ripper. While Moore is yet to write a story featuring Holmes, but by god has he written about Jack The Ripper.

From Hell is an apt title, for anyone who's actually read this book. It's definitely up there in terms of gore and brutality, even for a writer like Moore, who seems incapable of writing anything where someone DOESN'T get disemboweled at least once.

From Hell actually follows the ripper very closely, but even then, we don't want to give it all away, because along with being a slasher horror story, this is also an incredibly complex mystery centering around the White Chapel murders. Both how they happened without anyone getting caught, and moreover, why they happened in the first place.

This is not Moore's best work, but it's still up there with his other classics like V For Vendetta and Watchmen. So if you want a good old fashioned gothic horror to go with your Halloween, give this one a read.
