10 Essential Horror Comics Fans Must Read
7. Swamp Thing
The book that made Alan Moore a legend before Watchmen or The Killing Joke, the saga of the Swamp Thing is the legendary tale of the monster convinced it was a man.
It's very hard to find something new about this comic that hasn't already been said and written about extensively. It's without question one of the most influential comic books ever written, even by the standards of the man behind it. Swamp Thing is a brilliantly tragic and horrific tale of a creature believing itself to be scientist Alec Holland, who was murdered in an explosion that sent him rocketing into a nearby swamp along with some good old fashioned DC science goo.
Along with introducing fellow DC horror legend John Constantine, Moore's run on Swamp Thing practically built the darkest recesses of the DC universe. There was simply nothing else like it being sold at the time, even Batman came off as utterly tame compared to what Moore was writing in this comic. But then, that's par for the course with Moore, isn't it?
