Whenever a new actor is cast to play the Dark Knight, fans take to the Internet to express their absolute disgust. It happened (pre-Internet) when Michael Keaton got the role, and there was no lack of animosity online when Ben Affleck was cast to play Batman in the DCEU.

Still, most fans don't rage quit over something like that, and they inevitably give the actor a chance, so a lot of people went out to see Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. If the fans weren't happy with the casting choice, they were furious over what they saw in the theater.

In the movie, Batman did something he hadn't done in a very, very long time: he killed his enemies. Older fans may recall that the earliest depictions of the Caped Crusader didn't follow a "no-kill" policy, but for decades in the comics, movies, games, and tv shows, that's the one line he wouldn't cross.

Snyder threw it all out the window, and he had him doing other sadistic things along the way. He would brand the criminals he allowed to live, so they would take his mark to prison as a warning to others. It was a darker version of the Dark Knight few fans appreciated, and they were vocal about their disdain online.
