10 Factors That Give Batman The Best Extended Comics Universe

3. Batman Has Always Attracted The Best Creators In Comics

When you sit down and list some of the creators in comics that have worked on Batman throughout history, it quickly becomes abundantly clear that Bruce Wayne always gets the very best. Bob Kane. Bill Finger. Carmine Infantino. Dennis O'Neill. Neal Adams. Frank Miller. Steve Englehart. Marshall Rogers. Chuck Dixon. Jeph Loeb. Tim Sale. Jim Lee. Ed Brubaker. Greg Rucka. Scott Snyder. Greg Capullo. Grant Morrison. Alan Moore. That is a who's who of comics talent, and they all delivered indelible and everlasting contributions to the Batman universe. But what is it about Batman that attracts such stellar talent? There is no doubt that the strength of the character is a big pull, and the fact that each subsequent creator brings something new to the table each time they tell a Batman story means that there are always interesting ideas for future writers and artists to build on. It's no secret in comics that Batman is a much more appealing character to write than Superman, for instance, especially for long periods. Writers who stay on the Superman title for multiple years are much rarer than those who stay on Batman. This is because Batman is human, with more places for stories to go, more avenues to explore in terms of his life and loves, adventures and villains. Superman is more difficult because he is so powerful that a writer will always have to contrive a threat in order to bring the character down a level. Batman doesn't have this issue. He is human and is therefore always vulnerable (theoretically). All of these creators have helped build the extended Batman universe, and it is a testament to their creativity that it can be considered the best in comics.
