Aunt May is very much the heart and soul of the Spider-Man books. Unfailingly polite, always ready with a stack of whatever wheat cakes are, and forever seeing the good in people that's Aunt May. The latter is a particularly commendable character trait...except when it leads to her sympathising with some of Spidey's most vicious villains. During one of the web head's first confrontations with Doctor Octopus Aunt May gets caught in the crossfire, and chastises Spidey for fighting who she assumes is a nice, if troubled, man with a bowl cut. The paunch probably humanises him. That isn't the biggest (or goofiest) Ock-shaped mistake May made, however. There's also the time she almost married him. It's not quite on the level of her shacking up with Norman Osborn, but it's not far off Doctor Octopus has caused her nephew no small amount of bother over the years. When May inherits a lot of money, Otto Octavius puts the moves on her, Spidey's doddering Aunt not realising he's a supervillain. The nuptials only get foiled at the last minute by Spider-Man, but not before, erm, May the upteengenarian and Ock have sealed the deal in another respect. Maybe less goofy, more totally gross.
