10 Goofiest Moments In The Early Days Of Spider-Man
7. The Spider-Mobile
Merchandising is often an issue with Spidey. Peter Parker is always so hard-up for cash, you can't blame him for shilling for whatever product placement he gets offered. That's how he ended up hawking Hostess-brand Cakes, and that's how he ended up driving what fans charitably refer to as the Spider-Mobile. It hasn't made many recent appearances. Corona Motors approached Spider-Man about promoting their non-polluting car engine, which the wall crawler initially turned down. Because the idea of a Spider-Mobile was a ridiculous. Then he he realised how badly he needed the money, so he got the Human Torch to help him build the stupid car. And then teach him to drive. Because really, who needs to drive in New York? Certainly not Spider-Man, since he can swing everywhere on those natty webs. In which case, why on Earth did Spider-Man need a car. Granted, it did have an ejector seat and a cool Spidey spotlight, but the Spider-Mobile remains consigned to one of the goofiest thinks to happen to the character.
