10 Goofiest Moments In The Early Days Of Spider-Man

8. Those Hostess Fruit Cake Ads

As the recent Spider-Verse crossover revealed, there are a lot of Peter Parkers out there. Even a few wall crawlers who have totally different secret identities (holla, Spider-Gwen, the best Spidey book on shelves right now). The big event storyline saw Spider-Men from all across the multiverse teaming up to fight a common enemy who was killing them off. One of those featured very briefly was the Spider-Man from Earth-TRN479, who deals with his villains without the usual thwipping-and-quipping combos that the regular Peter Parker does. No, he manages to subdue any and all comers by throwing a load of Twinkies at them, which are presumably poisonous to those with evil in their hearts. Or diabetes. The ads that appear in Marvel Comics these days are often disruptive and badly designed, but they don't dampen all the pathos and high drama of a character (and Spidey's comics are full of that) in the same way as the seventies Hostess ads that featured the web head battling his enemies with mass-manufactured baked goods.
