10 Greatest DC Comics Of The 21st Century, Not Starring Batman

8. Green Arrow: Quiver

Superman Red Son
DC Comics

Kevin Smith is one of geek culture's most prominent voices. After gaining success in the 90s with his film career, Smith turned to writing comics. With Oliver Queen dead for years, Smith's run on Green Arrow is largely responsible for bringing the character to the forefront of DC's comic universe.

The story dives deep into DC's history, but not so much that this relaunch isn't accessible to new readers. The art by Phil Hester is remarkable and redefined the look of the character for the next decade. Most importantly, Quiver made Green Arrow a more defined character in his own right for a modern audience, instead of just being a discount Batman.

Quiver reimagines Oliver Queen and introduces new characters that have become mainstays in Green Arrow's lore, such as Mia Deardon. The Quiver graphic novel stands as a fantastic jumping on point for Green Arrow and shows Smith's best work ever in comics.
