That's how dark Midnighter is.

He is not to be messed with, able to pre-empt an enemy's moves and kick their asses... what more do you want? With a backup heart and ability to work through intense pain he has been the savior of his teammates on more than one occasion. Notably, he's the only one to escape capture during 'The Transfer of Power' storyline taking little Jenny Quantum away to safety, returning at a later date and kicking the holy hell out of the replacements and rescuing Apollo.

He has had his fair share of problems too though, usually thanks to Henry Bendix. But worry not my friends because once Midnighter was freed from the mind control that had him facing his own team mates, he took his revenge and killed that colossal nutsack in the most vicious and Midnightery way, earning him top spot here and in all Authority fans' hearts.
