10 Heartbreaking Times The Fantastic Four Broke Up

8. Sue Left Reed - Fantastic Four #130-149 (1973-1974)

Fantastic Four Quit
Marvel Comics

After the birth of Reed and Sue's first child, Franklin, you'd assume the couple would be over the moon. But considering the Fantastic Four square off against ancient gods and interdimensional beings twice a week, the couple were deeply concerned about raising a child in such a hostile environment.

When Franklin was only a few months old, the Frightful Four invaded The Baxter Building. When Reed ordered Sue to flee with Franklin, she refused. Instead, she created a forcefield around the toddler and continued to fight the supervillains. When the Frightful Four were defeated, Reed went berserk, accusing Sue of putting Franklin in danger. Sue was so hurt, she left her husband as well as the team.

Even though she stayed in touch with Ben and Johnny, Sue was no longer a part of the group for nearly two years. When Namor the Submariner realised Sue had deserted Reed, he saw this as the perfect opportunity to start a relationship with her. (It was actually Triton impersonating Namor but let's not get into that.)

Only when Sue saw Namor's Atlantean forces face off against her former teammates did she realise how much she missed Reed and so, rejoined the team.
