10 Hulk Fates Worse Than Death

2. Hulking Out In A World Where Gamma Turns You Into A Legit Monster

When you stop to think about it for more than a second, getting dosed with a massive amount of Gamma radiation isn't going to turn you into a superhero — it's going to kill you! In the world of Marvel Comics, that's not always the case, but that reality has been explored in the Ruins miniseries.

In that alternate universe, Marvel explored what happened to people who were exposed to the horrors of radiation, and it didn't turn Dr. Bruce Banner into a giant rage monster... well, not exactly. Instead, when Banner is exposed to the horrors of his Gamma Bomb, he became something horrifying.

Rick Jones summed up what happened to Bruce rather succinctly in the book:

"It didn't kill him. Not really. It hurt to look at him. His skin went black and dry, and cracked, and light shone out of him, like all his meat was on fire. Then he started to swell. And then the tumors broke him open. He just turned into a mass o' this cancer...and he was still alive, man... I could see it. They keep him in a vault under a lake now. Codename "Hulk," man."

If becoming a living cancer that's not allowed to die isn't a fate worse than death, what is?
