10 Hulk Fates Worse Than Death

3. Everything That Happened To Dr. Frye - Immortal Hulk #2

Abomination Immortal Hulk
Marvel Comics

Hulk comics are all about tragic figures, and Dr. Frye is no exception. He first showed up in Immortal Hulk #2, when the poor doctor watched his wife die, which made him fear death. In an attempt to keep Mistress Death at bay forever, he experimented with Gamma radiation, and it worked... to the extent it does in Hulk books.

He injected himself with a serum that made him look and feel as if he were ten years younger, so he decided to give it to his son, Del. At the time, Del was on his way to becoming a pro-football player, but the serum had the opposite effect on him.

Del died almost instantly, as his body was consumed with Gamma radiation. People visiting his grave were infected with radiation sickness. Around this time, Dr. Frye began to change into a Gamma-monster who killed anyone and everyone who came in contact with him.

When the Hulk realized what he's been up to, he gave the "good" doctor a fate worse than death. He ripped off his arms and legs and buried him deep underground. Unfortunately for Frye, he was immortal at the time, so he was left to spend eternity in utter darkness.
