8. John Constantine

John Constantine exemplifies everything there is to love about Vertigo, but as opposed to other anti-heroes, this one's actually very sympathetic.
Constantine (pronounced Constan-tyne), is from Liverpool, and is an expert conman, magician, and occult specialist. Basically, if you cross him, you're just as likely to wind up in the mersey as you are to be cursed with a bothersome spirit for the rest of your existence.
That hasn't hurt his standing amongst the mainstream though; today, John has been the subject of a movie (a bad one, but a movie all the same), an unfortunately cancelled TV show, and has since been integrated into the mainstream DC Universe, even joining the 'Dark' version of the Justice League formed specifically to face demonic threats.
WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir.
