10 Important Lessons Comic Book Superheroes Taught Us

7. Harley Quinn's Recovery

You may be thinking that Harley Quinn doesn't fit the definition of a superhero, and you'd be right. But, she also can't really be considered a villain either. In recent years, the character has grown far beyond how she originally started. She's more of an anti-hero noways, and for this reason she earns a spot on this list.

Tom King's Heroes in Crisis is a mixed bag that hits and misses on equal levels. However, despite its narrative flaws, the heart of it is what matters the most. Right at the centre of that heart is Harley Quinn's journey of rehabilitation after being the victim of fiction's most abusive ex-boyfriend.

The road to recovery is hard and does not move on a linear line. There will be setbacks, especially in the early stages. Deprogramming toxic traits and processing trauma is a Herculean task if there ever was one. Years of abuse and suffering can't just be washed away at the snap of a finger. This is something Harley has to learn the hard way.

Moral of the story? Be patient with yourself and others who may be going through their path to self-improvement. Recovery is something we all have to go through to some degree, and it's important to keep in mind just how difficult it can be.
