10 Incoming Marvel NOW Comics You Won't Want To Miss
6. The Unworthy Thor: Jason Aaron & Olivier Coipel
If you've been keeping up with the Marvel Universe lately, you should know that the OG God of Thunder hasn't been having the best of times. Replaced as Asgard's main protector by his former flame, Jane Foster, the Odinson has been MIA for a while now. You could be forgiven for not noticing however, as, well, Foster's Thor has helmed the series at its best and most fantastical. Donald Blake, eat your heart out.
Why the change of pace then? According to writer Jason Aaron (in comments made to Marvel), it all comes back to the fateful whisper Nick Fury uttered to Thor in Original Sin:
"Does the Odinson know what made him unworthy or does he not understand it? I don’t know, that’s part of the mystery as well. You know, again, to me what’s important right now is the quest he’s on. He’s on this quest to prove himself worthy again and how does he do that?"
Indeed, Marvel patrons will know that being 'worthy' forms a pretty big aspect of the Asgardian Avenger, one that just as much constrains as it does define the character. So, not only does the series promise to offer a really nuanced take on the former God of Thunder, it looks as though fans will finally get an answer to just what Fury said to make the hero part with Mjolnir. Or what made Mjolnir part with Thor, to be accurate.
Aaron is one of the medium's hottest talents right now, and his Thor series has been consistently brilliant. Definitely make sure it's on your pull list come October.
