It also avoids the stereotypical roles often forced onto a cast of kids, as all the group have three-dimensional personalities, with each clearly having had some significant time spent developing them.

The story also offers an intricate balance of a dark and light tone imaginable, managing to contain lighthearted banter between childhood friends and genuine threats on the lives of children within the span of its pages.
