If the X-Men universe had been managed half as well as the MCU, we might have had a House of M movie by now. Days of Future Past was too ambitious for its own good, but at least had some bright spots. House of M would have been far too much for Fox.
Taking place on Earth-58163, House Of M unleashes Scarlet Witch’s full force. Endgame saw her go toe to toe with Thanos, but here she’s on another level. After the death of her children, Scarlet Witch has a breakdown which rips apart reality itself.
In this new world, only Wolverine has any memory of a previous one ever existing. Mutants rule over humanity with Magneto at the helm, displaying contempt and cruelty for anyone without the mutant genes.
Treatment is so bad that Luke Cage leads an anti mutant resistance, led by Hawkeye, who’s already dead in Wolverine’s regular continuity.
House of M is such a fantastic saga because it asks questions all the way through. Prior to the shift we see the difficulties of dealing with Scarlet Witch’s power when she can’t control it herself, while afterwards we follow Wolverine through the new world, just as confused as he is.
