Given how much of Damian Wayne’s identity is built upon his father being the Dark Knight, it seems exceedingly cruel that a portion of time saw DC question whether Batman was indeed his real dad.

After a DNA test appeared to prove that Damian’s biological father was Slade - known perhaps better as Deathstroke - fans immediately began considering the very real possibility of this. Slade’s similar demeanour - and previously hinted encounters with Talia Al Ghul - certainly supported the idea that he was perhaps Damian’s ‘true’ father.

However, these concerns were put to rest in Deathstroke #35, wherein we learn Slade can’t be Damian’s father for a series of reasons; firstly in that Slade got a second DNA test which said otherwise, and secondly in that he had gotten a vasectomy, which placed his chances of having a secret child fairly low.

It would later be revealed that the confusion over Damian's parentage had been planted by Talia, in an elaborate attempt to try and convince the assassin to ally himself with her. While this did solve the mystery, it doesn't change the fact that there was a very real chance that it could have gone either way - which is what made the whole thing so interesting.
