10 Insane Marvel Superheroes You Won't Believe Exist
5. Americop
Despite sounding like the kind of name you'd make up for a parody character, Americop is very much a real Marvel character.
Bartholomew Gallows has a classic vigilante backstory - growing disillusioned with the justice system as a whole, and deciding to take matters into his own hands. In true vigilante fashion, this brings him into conflict with some more hollisitically moral superheroes - most ironically Captain America, who is supposed to represent American values.
Americop is an interesting case, as with a character whose name is a combination of 'America' and 'cop', you'd initially think Marvel would go out of their way to make Bartholomew appear like a wholesome superhero.
But this grey area of heroism makes for a much more interesting dynamic - which is only doubled when the identity of Americop is taken by Keane Industries to create the quasi-paramilitary force Americops, who are significantly less heroic.
