10 Insane Times Comics Revealed A Hero's Future

5. King Thor

Thor has always been a popular character, but what Jason Aaron began in 2013 with the legitimately epic Godbutcher story has pushed the God of Thunder into new heights.

It was intense and brilliant, with an amazing villain whose message was fairly on point. It was a character study of who Thor was, is and will be by bringing all three eras of Thor together. There's the before-worthy Thor, our Avengers Thor and Thor as the last Asgardian, the All-Father: King Thor.

This future had Thor, each day, fighting against countless legions of pitch-black darkness, and each time being overwhelmed only to be dragged back to his hall to heal and do it all again. It was tragic heroism of Thor never giving up and it was perfectly handled to give us an understanding of who Thor will always be: a hero, no matter the odds.

With Jason Aaron's time on the Thor titles coming to an end, King Thor makes his return in a miniseries that pits him against Loki, who now wields the Necroblade, the weapon that made Gorr the Godbutcher so powerful. The future is still insane for the All-Father King, so expect to learn more this September with the release of Aaron and Esad Ribic's King Thor comic.
