10 Iron Man Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

4. Iron Man: The Iron Age

Tony Stark's origin has gone through some changes over the years, but it has pretty much remained the same in theme. A weapons designer finds himself a prisoner of bad people wanting him to design a weapon. Instead, he designs a means of escape and in so doing becomes Iron Man.

Of the many tellings of this tale, Tony Stark has been the man to tell it. That was until the publication of Iron Man: The Iron Age in 1998, which told the story of Iron Man's origin through the eyes of Pepper Potts.

Because the story is told from a different perspective, it allowed for some tweaks and changes to be made to the lore. From this point forward, Stark's origin was solidified, which is why this book is a necessary read for anyone looking to understand the changes the character went through from his origins in the sixties moving into the new millennium.

Pepper's intimate relationship and knowledge of Tony's life help to paint a portrait of the man from outside his normal point of view. As an origin story, this works as a sort of reintroduction, but one that helps bridge the gap between perspectives that crosses the generational gap between the earlier readers and anyone new getting into the character.
