10 Iron Man Graphic Novels You Must Read Before You Die

3. Iron Man: Armor Wars

Iron Man Alex Ross
Marvel Comics

A lot of people who watch the MCU films and read through the books have wondered why Tony Stark doesn't just make Iron Man armor for everyone. This is especially the case for Black Widow and Hawkeye who have almost no protection from outside threats.

There's a reason Stark doesn't outfit the world with Iron Man tech and it's not due to the cost, which would be astronomical. Tony Stark doesn't trust... well, anyone really. One of the main reasons Stark abandoned his life as a weapons manufacturer was because he couldn't guarantee what would happen with his wares and the same is true for Iron Man tech.

The "Armor Wars" storyline delves deep into this problem when Stark's tech turned out to be the power source for a villain's armor. To combat this, Stark pulled his authorization from everyone he previously helped with his armor tech including the Guardsman keeping the supervillain prison, The Vault, safe.

The ensuing prison break irks his buddies, which leads to Stark's removal from the Avengers. He then "fired" Iron Man from his employ and essentially declares war on his own technology. This was another story that explores the very nature of Iron Man, his technology, and what it means to be a hero.
