Doctor Doom is one of Marvel's most iconic villains of all time, despite the film attempts thus far failing to do him justice. In the comics, he is a force to be reckoned with and a villain who not only killed Thanos, defeated the Avengers, and took over the entire universe, but also one who gave it all up simply because he grew bored.

In Secret Wars comic run, after the multiverse was destroyed in the final conflict between Earth-616 and Earth-1610, Doctor Doom utilized incredible power of a practically omnipotent alien race known as the Beyonders to scavenge pieces from several of the broken universes. He then proceeded to use all of these pieces to form an entirely new universe all his own, one in which he was a God, now known as God Emperor Doom.

It was here, with all the power of the Beyonders at his fingertips, that he was able to rip out Thanos' spine and defeat pretty much the entirety of Marvel's superhero line-up, Avengers very much included, without breaking a sweat.

Eventually, Doom gave it all up to de-power himself because he felt his life grew boring as the leader of the universe.
