10 Marvel Supervillains Who Almost Destroyed The Avengers
2. Thanos
Recently adapted for the big screen in a big way, the Mad Titan himself remains one of the Avenger's most unstoppable and dangerous foes.
Rather obviously, his most infamous and probably his best attempt at defeating the Avengers came in the form of the comic which Infinity War is based on, the Infinity Gauntlet miniseries. In the comic, the narrative begins with Thanos immediately getting all of the Gems and immediately wiping out half of the universe with a single snap.
From there, the remaining Avengers have to attempt to stop him and reverse the snap, but are defeated time and again. Thanos is a powerful being in his own right without the Infinity Gauntlet but with the Gauntlet, he is practically unstoppable. He's even able to defeat Eternity itself (an actual character here) and take its place, becoming the ruler of the universe's reality.
However, in doing so, he leaves his physical body, giving Nebula the chance to remove the Gauntlet from his arm and taking ultimate power for herself. Nebula then goes mad with power and the Avengers and Thanos have to team up to stop her from destroying the universe.
