6. The Sentry Rips Ares Apart

Maxwell Lord Blue Beetle
Marvel Comics

Robert Reynolds was a meth addict who broke into a laboratory that was connected to Project: Sentry, one of the hundreds of attempts to recreate the Super Soldier Formula that gave the world Captain America.

Having consumed the formula, Reynolds gained “the power of a million exploding suns”. Wanting to use his abilities for the greater good, he became the Sentry and befriended most of the emerging heroes of the Marvel Age, including the FF, Spider-Man, and the X-Men.

The Sentry’s foe, the general captured him and took him to the mutant Mastermind who implanted a mental virus within him. It created a dark alternate personality called the Void, which worked against every bit of good Reynolds did and killed a million people in Manhattan. After discovering this, with the aid of Reed Richards and Doctor Strange, Robert made the world and himself forget about the Sentry.

Rediscovered years later during the Raft Prison breakout, Robert Reynolds became a New Avenger for a time and unfortunately fell under the sway of Norman Osborn when the rogue took over the world’s peacekeeping community following the Secret Invasion. During the Siege of Asgard, Ares, the God of War, would not kill his fellow gods and switched sides.

When Ares opposed the Sentry, Reynolds grabbed him, ripped him completely in half, and threw his bloodied halves on the ground below.
