5. Iron Man Had A Stint With The Guardians Of The Galaxy
When Guardians of the Galaxy proved a box office smash in 2014, Marvel moved quickly to reboot its comic series to capitalise on the hype, reimagining each of the characters based on their movie counterparts.
The Big M also made Iron Man part of the team to increase its star power. Many called it a cynical move to boost sales, but at least the series sent Stark off to the cosmos in an organic way.
This Guardians title came along at a time when the inventor and scientist in Stark was curious about alien technology and worlds other than his own. It made sense for him to explore deep space, especially since so many threats to the Marvel Universe were coming from there.
Iron Man proved a good fit for the team due to its thematic similarities to the Avengers. Like Earth's Mightiest Heroes, they're a band of unlikely allies who are greater together than the sum of their parts.
Stark's Guardians membership may have been short-lived, but it was fun while it lasted, and no doubt helped the comic shift some extra units.
