In 4500 BC, Andromache of Scythia inexplicably gained the power of immortality. For millennia, she sought out other immortals to form a team that would safeguard the world. On her travels, she encountered an immortal called Noriko (who is called Qunyh in the film adaptation). The two fell in love and promised to always stand by one another.

When the witch trials swept through Europe during the Dark Ages, Andromache and Noriko were accused of black magic due to their unexplained immortality. Realising the women couldn't be killed, the authorities had Noriko encased in a coffin and hurled into the sea. Although she couldn't die, Noriko experienced the agony of drowning for centuries on end. Andromache tried for years to locate her lover but eventually gave up, believing she was long gone.

Sadly, she wasn't. Convinced Andromache abandoned her, Noriko became consumed by rage and vowed to ruin her life when she broke free. When Noriko was released in the modern era, she did everything in her power to bring about the downfall of mankind. Although Andromache tried to reason with her and rekindle their relationship, it was clear Noriko was too far gone to dedicate herself to anything except anarchy.
