10 Most Disturbing Moments In Batman Comics

5. Batman Confronts The Cycle Of Abuse - Batman: Night Cries

Despite having a metric ton of terrifying demonic-looking supervillains, many of Batman's most disturbing stories tend to revolve around the more realistic side of Gotham and the Dark Knight's efforts to improve it.

This is shown best - and most nightmarishly - in a one-off series given the vague yet gothic title of "Batman: Night Cries", which sees our hero hunt down a serial killer who has been targeting parents who abuse their kids. In hunting down this killer, Batman is forced to deal with a series of incredibly damaged kids, and attempt to make them relive the traumatic experience that they went through in order for them to recall who the murderer is - which is exactly as messed up as you'd imagine it would be.

All this said, it does also contain a scene where Batman consoles a child by revealing his secret identity and sharing his own personal experience in overcoming trauma, which is undeniably the most heartwarming thing ever, even if it comes in an otherwise chilling comic.
