9. The Joker Removes His Own Face - Detective Comics (Vol.2) #1
Of all the various horrific things the Joker has done in his sordid career, one of the most viscerally disgusting has to be his decision to have his own face surgically removed, in order for him to wear the preserved skin as the world's grossest mask.
To make matters even creepier, the surgeon the Clown Prince of Crime managed to rope in was not any regular doctor, but none other than the Dollmaker, the patron saint of creepy comics. And so the nightmarish surgery is done completely without anaesthetic, which is horrific for the reader, but seemingly an enjoyable experience for both of the villains, whose concerning passion for the procedure adds just another little touch of horror to the whole ordeal.
Although it's textbook horror shenanigans, you can't look at the Joker's skinless face and get more than a little grossed out at the knowledge that he did that to himself.
