Injustice: Gods Among Us is all about taking one of the more cliched story ideas for DC - Evil Justice League - and taking it farther than any had before.

The world of Injustice is one of the most fleshed out alternate Earths in the DCU, and one of the key differences between it and our reality is that Lex Luthor was actually a straight up good guy and one of Clark's most trusted friends.

At first he tried to help Superman's mission be gentler in its approach, but by the time the game's story picks up from the comics, he's long since realized that his best friend is too far gone. So he suits up and calls him out in front of the Hall of Justice for one final battle.

Lex pulls out every trick imaginable to try and beat Superman, but of course, no matter what universe he's in, Lex is never a match for the man of steel, and is swiftly killed by the superpowered tyrant. But hey - at least Lex went down fighting for something genuinely good.
